Pauline Green Scrapbook, 1917 – 1921

This scrapbook, created by Pauline Green between 1917 and 1921, documents Green’s time as a student at the State Normal and Industrial College (later North Carolina College for Women, now The University of North Carolina at Greensboro). The scrapbook is constructed of a green front and back bound by brown leather straps and is annotated in black ink on white paper. It contains various photographs that show campus buildings, the 1918 peace parade, daisy chains, students with class sweaters, the cast of the 1920 production of “Pride & Prejudice,” and Dr. Anna Howard Shaw at the 1919 commencement ceremony. The scrapbook also contains a postcard, clippings, ribbon, dried flowers, event programs and memorabilia, personal correspondence, autographs from friends and classmates, ephemera related to Green’s Red Cross service, and artifacts such as art corners, a napkin, and a pressed cigarette.
