Alpha Delta Kappa was founded in 1947 by Agnes Shipman Robertson, Marie Neal, Marion Southall and Hattie Poppino, visionary women who saw a need to recognize and support the professional efforts of outstanding women educators. The North Carolina Alpha Delta Chapter was founded in 1954. The Alpha Delta Kappa Records consists of scrapbooks, usually created by the state president, dating back to the organization’s founding in 1954. Two additional boxes contain records of meetings and conventions.
